Schools

It started in 2008 as a small dream. So many kids throughout the Makakoi Village were struggling to pay school fees and some couldn’t attend school at all when their parents couldn’t afford school fees or a uniform. They were often seen herding cows and goats or carrying firewood on their backs as a way of life during school hours. We provided a solution by offering free education to orphans and children involved in child labor. Students were able to join school without the risk of being turned away because they were poor. I Can Fly High School became a miracle for scores of children who couldn’t access education because of poverty.

Secondary education is a pillar of hope to many youth on the continent of Africa. I Can Fly High School serves its local community as a registered private school for students in grades 9-12 (Kenya system Form 1-4 equivalent). Students are instructed in eleven subjects, which include English, Kiswahili, History, Geography, Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Christian Religious Education, Math and Business Studies. Our class sizes are small which allows time and space to bring each academic subject to life for our students.

Early childhood education lays the foundation of a child’s academic future. Children who receive early childhood education are better equipped to transition into primary and secondary school. Basic reading and math skills are fundamental in the development stages of children ages 3 to 6 years old. The I Can Fly Pre schools help give children from small rural villages a boost in their dreams to receive an education. The schools are located on two campuses easily accessible to the local community. The programs are spearheaded by local teachers and parent volunteers.

The I Can Fly School is a place of refuge for many girls and boys. Students are able to escape poverty stricken environments and/or oppressive cultural traditions. Our school gives students a chance to grow up in a healthy living environment and receive an education, which helps them build self-sustaining livelihoods for the future. In the end, they win.
