OUR FIRST BORDER RESCUE

The past 72 hours were historical for I Can Fly International. We received a distress call on Saturday night from a police station near the Tanzania border. Four girls ages 12- 14 years old and their parents were apprehended by local law enforcement officers while attempting to cross the Kenya border into Tanzania for a Female Genital Mutilation ceremony and child marriage arrangement. After the parents were arrested for the attempted crimes the girls were left abandoned at the police station. Unfortunately, the girls were forced to sleep in a jail cell without food for two nights.

After the Children’s Welfare office called the I Can Fly Rescue team we arrived to capture all four girls. The girls were safely transported 150 miles north to the I Can Fly Rescue center in Migori, Kenya . They are now safe in our custody. We are rejoicing and grateful to the Lord.

Border crossings into Tanzania for the purpose of Female Genital Mutilation ceremonies and early marriage proposals are on the rise at an alarming rate. Due to major crackdowns in various Kenyan communities, families opt to take their daughters across the border into their neighboring country where the laws against mutilation and child marriage are not enforced. Please pray for us.
